On the Way Home.

Hi Friends,

We spent all day in the car again. We drove as far as we could, but we did not think that we could safely make it all the way home. So I will not be in School on Monday. But we should see you on Tuesday.

We rode all day. It was boring, but my Mom read the book My Side Of the Mountain to us. It was a good book. It is about a boy living on a mountain in a tree all by himself. He makes friends with some animals, like a falcon.

It was strange because when we stopped for the night at a campground we met a guy who actually had a falcon just like in the book.

The place where we stopped had a really big hill. We invented a new sport- Grass Sledding. We used a piece of cardboard to slide down the hill. Soon a bunch of other kids came to join us.



We will get back to Mount Airy tomorrow. I search the world over, but wherever I roam MCA keeps calling me home.

Hi MCA ,from New Orleans.

We stayed all day in New Orleans. It was awsome. We went to the French Quarter. The French Quarter is very, very old. The streets are very narrow and the buildings all touch one another. Alot of the buildings have balconies on them. They were very old and had alot of fancy details.

We went to breakfast at a famous place called Cafe du Monde. They had the best donuts in the world. Except they were not really donuts. They were square pieces of dough that they literally threw into the frier. And then they covered them with tons of powered sugar. I had white powder from head to toe. They call the donuts- Beignets (ben-yays). They were super good.

Then we walked around town. You might think that sounds boring, but this is who we saw performing on the streets. The Prince of New Orleans- He was a magician, A country band, somes blues bands, a guy painted completely silver and dressed as a robot, acrobats that did awsome breakdancing, balloon artists, and painters.

Then we went to a store. We got Mardi Gras Masks, and alligator jerky. Then we went to the French Market. It is the oldest farmers market in the country. They had hundreds of booths that sold interesting things from all over the world. One booth had home-made whistles.

We had creole food for lunch, real fried alligator. It tasted like chicken.

We took a mule drawn carriage around the French Quarter. We learned alot of cool stuff.

Then we went to the Battle Field where the final battle of the war of 1812 was fought. It was something to look at. The Americans beat the British because the British forgot to bring ladders and mortars. We would have stayed longer, but the battlefield closed while we were still looking.

Then we went home. We are tired. But it was a great day.

Yesterday was a great day. We went to the Rainforest Cafe. It best restaurant ever. It even had a Build-a-Bear workshop inside. I made a snake and my sister made a Tiger. She got to make one because she missed the first grade field trip to Build-a-Bear today.

The cafe had a ride inside. It was a 6 seat innertube that floated on the water. It had very scary stuff. And it had a waterfall that looked like it would soak you, but it turned off right at the last minute. There were robotic animals. One was a tiger that jumped at you. Another was an alligator. They had Gorillas too.

Then we played on the beach. It was too cold to swim but we collected a lot of sea shells. I had a really fun time.

Today we spent 11 hours in the car. It was boring. We finshed the last of our homework. We are in New Orleans now.

Hi, I haven't written for awhile. We have been busy.

On Tuesday we went to the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History. I saw replicas of the Santa Maria and the Nina. These were Columbus' ships. They were built for the 500th anniversary of Columbus discovering America. They were built just like the originals. They were built in Spain and actually sailed to the US in 1992.

I was surprised at how little the ships really were. Especially after visisting the Lexington. There was not much space for all of those people to live.

There were other neat things at the museum too. Like stuff they pulled up from a real ship wreck in the 1530's. Some of the oldest shipwreck items in America. They also had a dinosaur area, an area where you can learn about the different types of Sea Shells, a rock area, and some cool cowboy history stuff.

Yesterday we started home. We got as far as Galveston Texas. We saw alot of damage on the way here. We wondered what it was from. The lady at the campground told us it was from Hurricane Ike. That happened on September 13th, 2008. We saw a movie of the hurricane and photos of what the campground looked like from the storm. They seem to have cleaned up much faster than Katrina.

We have decided to spend the day exploring Galviston.

Monday

I am writing a day late because we got back late last night and I fell asleep right away.

First, we went with my Dad to visit Kent (the neon supplies guy). He took us to lunch.

Then my Dad stayed with Kent and my Mom took us to the Aquarium. I loved the Aquarium, it was better than the one in Myrtle Beach. They had a bird and animal show and I was chosen from the crowd to be the assistant. They told me it was very dangerous. They made me put on special gloves and glasses. They said that I could not make eye contact with the animal. They opened up a crate and out came an anteater. It wasn't dangerous at all, they tricked me. I got to feed the anteater yogurt. Then I got a coupon for a free burger from WhatABurger.

They had a dolphin show. They showed how they trained the dolphins. I got to help give a command. They said I would get wet but I thought they were tricking me again. The command was Human Sponge command. We got soaked.

My favorite program was the StingRay program. I got a StingRay tooth. I can't wait to show it to you. I felt a StingRay. They have mucus all over their body that makes them feel like Jello, but it protects them from cuts.

Then Kent took us out to dinner. I ate my first oysters! They were so good! And, I tried my first Sushi. It was good also.

My mom took the pictures yesterday. We have to buy a cable to put them on the blog. So I will show them to you tomorrow.

We got to our destination, Corpus Christi, Texas.

On the way, we saw two crop dusting airplanes. They were working their crops. When we were driving we saw that there were miles, and miles of land with nothing. Only short trees. And it was very very flat. You could see nothing for miles!






We are staying on an island and to get here we got to take a ferry. We drove our camper on the boat and it took us to the island. It was much better than a bridge! (The picture to the right shows us looking out the truck window while crossing the water on the ferry.)

When we got to our campground (Pioneer Village, in Port Aransas), we took a walk on the beach. And played a little in the Ocean. Then we went to a country dance at the campground. My sister loved it but I didn't. Then we went to bed.

Once we woke up, we ate breakfast and met the guy my Dad is buying some neon supplies from. He had a cool dog. He took us to lunch at a real Tex-Mex restaurant.












Then we went to the USS Lexington, which is a aircraft carrier. It was from World War II. It was nicknamed the "Blue Ghost" because it was the only one painted blue-grey and several times it was hit but not sunk. The Japaneese reported many times that the Blue Ghost sunk, but it did not. It was huge. They had lots of exhibits that let you pretend to drive the plane or pretend to be a tail gunner. We saw what the navy jails looked like. We saw a movie about fighter pilots in training.













Then we went home, and played in the Gulf of Mexico. It was a great experience for me. We played until the moon came up. We found a dead puffer fish. It was cool.


Then we went back to the camper, took a shower, and wrote this blog.

I am going to bed now. BRAYDON

Before we left today, we saw a Momma Duck sitting on a nest of eggs. Then we left. We spent 11 hours in the car. It was very, very, very, very boring. We will get to Corpus Christi tomorrow. I can,t wait.Braydon.
